Excerpt from Chapter 2 of Lead by Greatness.

In my work with leaders and through the research I conducted for this book, I have identified eight character traits that define great leaders. These eight are generic and apply across the board. However, they can be modified, adapted, and expanded to fit the leadership needs of any given organization.

  • Authenticity
  • Destiny
  • Mastery
  • Humility
  • Vulnerability
  • Generosity
  • Awareness
  • Wisdom

Leaders of character display a remarkable similarity in possessing these traits. Because of this, they see value and opportunity where others do not. They foresee trends, but are not enslaved by them. They can buy when others sell and sell when others buy, because they are persuaded by value and opportunity, not by fad or frenzy. They recognize talent, inspire it, and nurture it. They are guardians of their organizations’ futures, and they build trusting teams and sustainable reputations. They care, they innovate, and they deliver.
